BRS2- belt rip scanner as Ex I variant with MMS


The BRS 2 belt rip scanning system is used to increase the productivity of conveyors. Belt rips are detected immediately at noticeable, monitored points and the drives are turned off immediately. The BRS variant with the MMS IPC control unit is suited for installation into coal mines at risk of explosion.

Structure and Function

For the monitoring of steel cable belts, inductive loops must be embedded in the belt. After installation, BRS 2 records the loops in the belt, defines and numbers the loops, and creates its own image of belts and loops in real time.


With a loop diagnosis in real time, BRS 2 constantly monitors the perfect state of the belt and stops the belt in case of a rip so that additional damage and downtimes are reduced.


In real time, detailed information can be detected, including the loop position, loop status, and the last ten status changes of every loop. System access and monitoring are easy: either locally with a TFT screen, 5 shortcut keys, a mouse pad, and a virtual keypad or remotely via TCP/IP or other bus standards.


Detector for ferromagnetic materials


The ME 9000 metal detector system is used to detect ferrometallic objects and designed for the attachment of belt conveyor equipment. The system has an “intrinsically safe” design and is thus suited for underground use. The purpose is to find any metallic objects (tools, construction materials, etc.) lying on the conveyor that can lead to damage to the belt (e.g. tearing).


When metal is detected, the device emits a signal that can be used to deactivate the conveyor or send an alarm. The sensitivity is variable and can be set in the evaluation electronics using a potentiometer.


Structure and Function

The metal detector system consists of the following components:

  • Evaluation electronics (ME 9001.1A)
  • Antenna with antenna adapter (ME 9003), mount for antenna adapter
  • Mount for antenna
  • Connecting line from ME 9000.1A to ME 9003
  • Power supply unit


The antenna is a preassembled, four-wire line section with a maximum of 8.1 metres in length mounted around the belt conveyor as a loop and completely surrounding it. Both ends of the antenna line are connected in the antenna adapter. A preassembled line also leads from the antenna adapter to the evaluation electronics.


The alarm indication of the metal detector is available as a floating optical coupler output at the terminals in the antenna adapter housing and can be conducted to any control unit.
