The Walt Disney World Monorail System is a public transit monorail system in operation at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, U.S. As of 2016, the system is one of the most heavily utilized monorail systems in the world, carrying over 150,000 daily riders, with around 50 million people per year.
The system is 23.7km (14.7 miles) in length, operates 3 lines, with 6 stations, and travels an average speed of 64km/h (40mph). The trains are driven by eight 84 kW (113hp) motors which are powered by a 600 volt electrical system running through a busbar mounted on each side of the concrete beam.
Becker Global America’s Switchgear and DC reclosing system is utilized on the Walt Disney World Monorail System to provide the electrical distribution and prevent the closing of a DC breaker on a faulted line. After a fault or overcurrent trip occurs, the relay provides load side fault verification before the breaker can close and will automatically reclose the breaker on a clear line.

11th of July 2017 marked an important milestone in the Becker Mining China transportation system development as we successfully sold the first toothed monorails in the Chinese market for the Becker Mining Systems Group. In this way, we managed to get ahead of a couple of competitors. The agreement with Shanxi Tiandi Wangpo Coal Mining Co. Ltd. is the reward for two years of diligent and dedicated work done by the Becker Mining China transportation team. The contract carries a significant meaning not only for us, as we introduce a reliable manufacturing process that keeps up with German standards, but it also leads the direction in which we see the underground transportation market is headed.
Suspended monorails solely driven by rack-and-pinion will become more important to Chinese production sites, as they allow maximized loads under harshest conditions. In the meantime, this transition period will create more opportunities for Becker Mining China in the transportation development.
On November 23rd the 62nd Council of People’s Deputies conference of Kemerovo Region was held in Kemerovo`s Regional Administration. Deputies of Regional Council and State Duma, members of Board of Regional Administration, heads of cities and districts, councils of people’s deputies of municipalities and non-governmental organizations as well as leaders of trade unions took part in the event.
In the conference´s context the Kemerovo Region exhibition of companies´ was held, in which Becker Mining Systems RUS took part. The company presented information materials regarding mining products produced at the own production facilities in Novokuznetsk. Among them are diesel hydraulic locomotive KP-95, elements of monorail, fuel stations, air locks, hydraulic lifting beams, tranportation containers, rollers, etc.
During the conference the Governor of Kemerovo region took floor with a budget message and reported about the results of the Regional Administration activity in 2017. He focused on the regions` main industry which is coal mining. Besides the long crisis which is connected with sharp drop of coal prices 2012-2015, no enterpise was hut down in Kuzbass, and new ones were built. In 2017 coal miners invested in the development of the industry 63 bln rubles – this is 4,6 bln more than previous year. Thus, two new open pits were established: "Trudarmeyskiy-Yuzhny" and "Karachiyakskiy" (open-working division of Taylepskaya Mine"), as well as two new mines: Tikhova and Uvalnaya.
After the official part, participants of the conference took the opportunity to interact with the represented companies at the exhibition. From October 10 to 13, the specialized exhibition for modern technologies and special equipment for extraction and processing of ore and minerals, Rudnik-2017, took place in Perm, Russia. The Rudnik Expo has been a unique place for presenting new products, constructive negotiations and the conclusion of contracts for OOO Becker Mining Systems RUS. On the first weekend of October OOO Becker Mining Systems RUS celebrated two holidays at once – the company’s Birthday and Miner’s Day, which is a Russian holiday celebrated in the week before.
The history of OOO Becker Mining Systems RUS began 7 years ago, when OOO Becker Mining Transport Systems was founded. It then was in charge of the group's transportation product portfolio. Later, in 2014, in order to organize a convenient system for customers' support as well as to provide complex solutions to satisfy the customers’ needs, Becker Mining Systems AG decided to join the two subsidiaries of the Becker Mining Systems Group on the territory of the Russian Federation – OOO Becker Mining Transport Systems and OOO Becker Mining Systems Siberia - in order to form one large entity. The new company OOO Becker Mining Systems RUS has since been responsible for the entire range of the Group's entire product portfolio. During these 7 years the company has been growing continuosly with an increased turnover year after year.
OOO Becker Mining Systems RUS 7th birthday was a fun and social event. Employees of all departments of the company took part in the preparation for the event. The holiday was held outdoor and, even if the weather was rainy, everybody was in great mood. Each department prepared snacks and dishes and entertainments for the guests. There were quizzes about the company's history, funny foretellings and a lot of other exciting contests. Cooking talents of employees are also worth mentioning; there were a lot of exquisite dishes, and some of them were cooked during the event on the open fire.
The holiday was fun and employees liked the holiday’s unusual format. It was a chance to meet in an informal atmosphere.

In the beginning of August, in the city of Kazan, a training workshop for power engineers of AO SUEK took place within the program “Increasing efficiency of the energy complex of an enterprise”. This event was held by AO SUEK for the fourth consecutive time in a different Russian city.
This year, employees of OOO Becker Mining Systems RUS were invited as third party speakers and specialized experts in the field of power equipment. OOO Becker Mining Systems RUS specialists presented both, new and well-known developments of the Becker Mining Systems Group:

The first report of Becker specialists was devoted to the new generation of power electric equipment - Endis 4.0 product line, which was developed based on over 50 years of experience in operation and thorough consumer analysis all over the world. The audience learnt about new features introduced in the well-known and well-proven Endis equipment. First of all: flexibility and universality. Now a consumer has almost unlimited choice of configurations for compact stations, and it is possible to adjust the equipment for solving different tasks. At the same time, well known and highly appreciated features of the ENDIS range, which have been mentioned by miners from around the world have been preserved – quick-opening doors and modular design.
The second report, which was of great interest for the audience, was devoted to the ICAS Surface Collision Avoidance System. The system is intended for early warning of a driver and personnel of approaching vehicles or fixed objects. The core of the system is a reliable GPS technology, which provides circle protection of equipment, definition of all surrounding equipment and fixed infrastructure, which is also equipped with ICAS-products.
Within protection and alarm zones, vehicles and infrastructure are virtually represented on the driver's displays, in order to reduce the number of accidents due to a lack of awareness of the situation and insufficient time for reaction.
The last report was devoted to the important topic of underground safety. PDS Proximity Detection System was developed to prevent damages and fatal accidents of miners, who are within dangerous proximity of working mining vehicles. The system provides early warning to a vehicle’s driver in case of presence and number of workers and other vehicles in close proximity. The system provides two-way warning and informs of potential collisions. Patented three-technology system (UHF, radar and electro-magnetic field) provides a scalable system, which is suitable for all types of tasks. As this is the only system in the world, which uses all three technologies at once, it is the most reliable and robust product on the market. The possibility to taylor your detection zone has proven on the market.
These topics raised great interest of over 30 employees of AO SUEK, taking part in this workshop. The audience expressed their interest in Becker Mining equipment.

Becker Mining Systems RUS delivered a KPCS–95 suspended diesel hydraulic locomotive to Sherlovskaya-Naklonnaya Mine of Donugol Coal Company. The locomotive was improved by Becker specialists for required mine conditions: a possibility of power reduction to 36kW was added. The locomotive was put into operation and is successfully being used by miners in their everyday work.
The suspended diesel hydraulic locomotive KPCS–95 is intended for transportation of people and materials in mine workings, which are gas and dust hazardous, along suspended monorails I155, 200 и BWTU-50/100 with inclination angles of the road up to ±300.
Force exerted rating generated by one drive is 20 kN for friction version and 30 kN for rack-and-pinion version. There are 6 pulling hydraulic driving units.
In 2017, Donugol sent a technical inquiry for the delivery of KP-95 suspended haulage with the possibility of power reduction from 95kW to 36 kW. Becker specialists successfully improved this diesel hydraulic locomotive according to the customer’s request.
When developing this locomotive, special attention was paid to maintaining of functions. New software version was implemented in the haulage, which provides power reduction to 36 kW. New software provides steering of the locomotive with the use of full power (95 kW) or, after switching in the driver’s cabin with the button on the control panel, with reduced power to 36 kW.
After switching of the locomotive to steering with 36 kW power, the locomotive’s speed is limited proportionally to the power difference. The locomotive’s moves similarly to the motion in the mode of usual (unlimited) power. Pulling force and braking force do not change.
Changes implemented in KP-95 suspended haulage are in accordance with regulatory documents and requirements of Technical Regulations of the Customs Union 012/2011, which is confirmed by a Certificate of Conformity.

Becker Mining South Africa’s Alrode manufacturing plant has commenced production of a chairlift system that will be installed at Tau Lekoa Gold Mining Company’s mine near Orkney, in North West Province.
“This contract encompasses the supply and installation of a new 180 m length chairlift system, which will run between the 800 and 900 levels and will operate at an inclination of 34°,” says Tom Searle, Becker Mining SA. “A 22 kW streamlined drive unit, with geometric precision for maximum use of balance and design strength, will be installed at the bottom of the decline. The installation will be footwall mounted.
“Becker’s robust chairlift systems, with the latest technology and manufacturing trends, meet stringent quality and safety regulations in the mining sector. These modular, low maintenance chairlift systems are designed to transport up to 900 personnel per hour, quickly, efficiently and safely in all underground applications, including difficult mining conditions.” Safety features include a rope slip sensor and fail-safe brake system, as well as a passenger override sensor and an intelligent pull key system. This system can be supplied with dependable diesel driven generator sets to ensure safety in the event of power outages. Installation of this chairlift system will be completed in December 2017 and commissioning will take place early in 2018.
Novokuznetsk city of Kemerovo region, where Russian subsidiary of Becker Group is located, celebrated its 399th birthday. Novokuznetsk is one of the oldest Siberian cities. It was founded in 1618. Now Novokuznetsk is one of the largest metallurgical and coal mining centers of Russia.
Traditionally on this day there were mass festive events organized in the city. In the morning of the festive day, several columns marched along the city streets, each column showing a unique character and spirit of Novokuznetsk.
Becker Mining Systems RUS was invited by Novokuznetsk City Administration to take part in the festive march as a young and perspective company, which is an important part of Novokuznetsk business world.
Employees of Becker Mining Systems RUS were happy to take part in the festive event. BMS RUS was a part of the column named Progressive Novokuznetsk, which consisted of 13 industrial enterprises of the city. It was the first experience of mass march and representation of the company on the city level for BMS RUS. On this day, employees experienced positive emotions and had a chance to communicate with colleagues in informal surroundings. We are sure that the march on the City Day is going to become our good tradition, and next year BMS RUS will take part in the celebration of the city’s 400th birthday.

From June, 6th - 7th, the SAIMM Mine Planning Colloquim 2017 took place in Randburg, Johannesburg (South Africa).
Becker Mining South Africa (Pty) Ltd. exhibited our latest innovations in the field of Proximity Detection (PDS) and Collision Avoidance Systems (CAS) at the conference. The conference has evolved over the last years and has become a fixed date on every key player's agenda. Bringing together Mining students with industry leader's, SAIMM Mine Planning conference is an event for interesting discussions and exchange of ideas.

The conference was organised by the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) and involved company exhibits, as well as a series of presentations and discussion sessions on the development and implementation of PDS and CAS for underground and surface mobile machinery.
On June 6-9th the 24th edition of the UGOL ROSSII & MINING trade fair took place in Novokuznetsk. The annual trade fair marks the peak on the Russian mining exhibition agenda.
OOO Becker Mining Systems RUS, the Russian subsidiary of Becker Mining Systems AG, takes part in the exhibition every year and once again presented not only the well-known established Becker Mining product range, but was also honoured to showcase the group's latest innovations.
OOO BMS RUS today produces a wide range of Becker Mining products according to German quality standards at its own production site in Novokuznetsk. At this year's exhibition the Becker Diesel Locomotive of the Russian production was shown for the first time. It was produced according to original technology standars of the production plant of Becker-Warkop (Poland). The new locomotive is an analogue to the KPCS-95 Diesel Locomotive which has proven effective in many installations over the years and has all its advantages: built-in braking system, unmatched climbing performance, reinforced structure of the drive unit, dry cooling system and the use in particularly difficult route sections where utmost reliability is required.
Another new product and the main premiere at the UGOLROSSII & MINING 2017 from Becker Mining Group was the new generation energy ditribution equipment of ENDIS4.0 – CS 4000 compact station. It has been developed on the basis of over 50 years of experience in operation and thorough analysis of customers’ requirements from all over the world. Giving customers almost unlimited choice of configurations for their compact stations. At the same time customers have the possibility of updating their existing equipment. Following new requirements, ENDIS4.0 compact stations are able to solve tasks of local automation, integration into existing control systems, and to transfer data to the surface.

On March, 31, 2017 Jesús Flores Medina and Adrian Villagrana Veyna presented the SmartFlow® system, the latest development of Lasec Telecomunicaciones S.A.P.I. de C.V..
SmartFlow® is a real-time data information system for mine wide localisation and visualisation via tagging&tracking. The system has recently been installed at the Tizapa Mine, which is mainly owned by Peñoles Group. Our clients have worked with a stable and reliable system since. The data provided by the SmartFlow® system has not only been used to detect safety related risks but also to optimise production processes and material flows.
The system and its first succesful implementation were presented to the Clúster Minero de Zacatecas (CLUSMIN) where entrepreneurs, managers and state representatives of the state of Zacatecas have gathered to share their mining knowledge, push local businesses and generate new innovations. The robust Kito ER2 hoists are to be installed at various pump stations underground and can be used for the installation and maintenance of dewatering pumps and motors. Motorised trolleys ensure smooth, precise traversing and positioning.
“Kito equipment, which meets stringent quality and safety specifications, is known for efficient performance, low maintenance and extended service life. The strength and reliability of these hoists is in the sophisticated design and a meticulous manufacturing process,” says Rick Jacobs, Becker Mining South Africa (Pty) Ltd.. “The series has been designed with an inverter as standard in a dual speed hoist and trolley for improved efficiency, enhanced safety and easy operation. A double safety mechanism, consisting of a friction clutch and an upper-lower limit switch, ensures optimum safety and prevents hoist or load chain damage. The electromagnetic brake ensures strong braking power, while holding the load securely and push button controls offer enhanced operator comfort and reduced fatigue.”
High strength, nickel plated load chain increases resistance to wear and corrosion. The forged carbon steel hook has been designed to open gradually and will not fracture under excessive load. Top and bottom hooks are equipped with a hook latch and the bottom hook swivels 360 degrees to prevent kinking and twisting of the load chain.
Becker Mining South Africa (Pty) Ltd. offers the complete range of Kito equipment including wire rope hoists and powered and manual chain hoists, lever blocks and specially designed accessories. Kito hoists have an incredible capacity range maxing at 63 tons for wire rope hoists. Every product is also RoHS compliant, which means there are no harmful materials used for the design.
On February 10, 2017, Christof Schuh, Senior Project Engineer at Becker Mining Europe GmbH, together with represantatives of Eurotalc s.r.o. and Prof. Dr. Sofranco held a presentation for some 50 engineering students and postgraguates of the BERG faculty (Faculta Banictva, Ekologie, Riadenia, a Geotechnologii) at the Technical University of Kosice.
Mr. Schuh presented the entire range of products currently offered by the Becker Mining Systems Group and showcased the latest project in collaboration with Eurotalc s.r.o.. Their Slovakian talc mine Gemerska Poloma (just about 70km west of Kosice) has recently been equipped with state-of-the-art underground communication technology of Becker SmartCom®.
It was a good presentation with very interesting talks and discussions from fresh minds pushing into the industry and we want to thank all attendees for their participation and interest in this showcase. We look forward to future project presentations at the Technical University of Kosice.
A mechanized complex produced by Becker-Warkop has been put into operation at Kakanj Mine in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2016 an agreement was signed between Elektroprivreda BiH (Bosnia i Herzegovina) and Becker-Warkop (Poland) regarding the delivery of a mechanized complex for Kakanj Mine. The purchase of the equipment has been financed with means intended for recapitalization of EPBiH mines. Kakanj Mine belongs to the Bosnia state energy company Elektroprivreda BiH. Besides, EPBiH manages six other coal mines - Breza, Gracanica, Abid Lolic, Kreka, Djurdjevik and Zenica. Becker-Warkop was chosen as a supplier of a mechanized complex for mining of coal beds of Kakanj Mine as a result of the tender.
On July 19th, 2016 acceptance and testing of the purchased equipment took place at Becker-Warkop's production plant in Świerklany (Poland). As a result of the tests, all required characteristics were confirmed. The hydromechanized support delivered to Kakanj Mine was tested for 60 000 working cycles and consists of the following equipment:

Numerous delegations from Bosnia and Herzegovina took part in the official ceremony of putting the equipment into operation at Kakanj Mine, which took place in February 15th, 2017. Throughout February the complex had worked in testing mode and at the end of the month the testing period successfully ended. The work of the new mechanized complex provides:

Planned production of Kakanj Mine's breaking face is 2000 tons/day. Main mining and geological characteristics of the face, in which the complex is operated are the following: mineable seam thickness – 3.2 m, face length – 120 m, extraction column length – 500 m, seam inclination – up to 8°. It is expected that, thanks to the new mining equipment, the mine is going to extract 200 000 tons of coal until the end of the year! Hydromechanized support produced by Becker-Warkop is a chock-shield support intended for high efficiency mechanized complexes. It has been designed and produced according to the latest technical and technological achievements, based on German construction documents.
The key advantage of the Becker-Warkop support is the strict design in accordance with the customer’s production cycle and according to operation conditions. The support system fully meets safety and ergonomics requirements. Compactness, as well as the large area of contact with the roof and absolute control over the support provide a precise face operation. A passage in front of the shields provides safety and greater comfort for miners working at the face. The support uniqueness has been achieved thanks to the use of special steel grade, which allows reducing the support’s weight in comparison with its competitors, which reduces cost and effort to bring the material to its actual workplace.
Throughout 2017, Becker-Warkop plans to deliver another mechanized complex to Zenica Mine, which also belongs to Bosnia state energy company.
On February 6, 2017 Becker Mining Systems AG and Becker Mining Europe GmbH, at the initiative of Becker Mining Systems RUS o.o.o., organised a 3 day technical workshop for specialists of leading Russian mining companies in the framework of strengthening existing partnerships and devoloping new business relations. Amongst others, representatives of SUEK Ltd. and UK Sibirskaya took part in the workshop which was held at the Becker Mining Group's headquarters in Friedrichsthal/Germany.
Participants of the workshop visited the headquarters and the attached Becker Mining Europe GmbH production site in Friedrichsthal and were introduced to our new generation products of energy distribution equipment - the ENDIS® model range. They were also given a quick overview of what is underway regarding our automation systems technology devolopment MINCOS® and the development of our underground communication equipment SmartCom®.
While the final exterior design is yet to be unveiled, new technical features were presented and customers were reassured that the new product range meets any possible legal requirements. Thus, Russian customers will receive a ready-to-use-product that meets all modern safety requirements. A number of customers from around the world had been involved in the course of development since 2004, when the Becker Requirement Program first started.
In return, representatives of our Russian customers were able to ask their questions and share their thoughts that arose whilst being introduced to the new equipment. More then ever it was necessary for our clients to adapt electric equipment to the needs and environments encountered in tunneling systems. During the 3 day workshop, participants worked together with our employees from R&D to communicate their demands for the development of their businesses.
As a result of the workshop an agreement on operation tests of prototype units in Russian mines was concluded between Becker Mining Europe GmbH and Russian customers, underpinning our great partnerships. Prototype testing of the new generation Becker equipment will assure Russian miners of the outstanding operational capabilities while providing our R&D with invaluable data from practical experience and underground conditions.
Becker Mining South Africa (Pty) Ltd. has completed delivery of the first consignment of winding rope attachments to a client in the western limb of the Bushveld Complex, in the northern part of South Africa – the world’s largest layered intrusion.
“The scope of this contract encompasses the design, manufacture and delivery of rope attachments to suit three different winders on the mine, as well a complete spare set,” says Tom Searle, senior general manager: mechanical, Becker Mining South Africa (Pty) Ltd. “Becker has also supplied rope handling equipment, including WRC clamps, used during installation and maintenance of ropes.
“All equipment is proof load tested to two and a half times the safe working loads it will be subjected to in service and complies fully with the relevant mine health and safety acts and regulations.” All hook sets were supplied complete with catch plates and jack catch boxes, which are mounted in the headgear as a critical safety feature to prevent injury to personnel and damage to the shaft infrastructure should an overwind occur.
Rocket safety detaching hooks are designed to detach the winding rope from the conveyance in the event of an overwind and arrest and suspend the conveyance in the headframe. This patented design caters for the prevention of partial detachments whilst in service.

Krasnaya Gorka Museum's latest exposition features one of our Minetrans® suspended monorails.
Since last month visitors can have a seat in the cabin of our Minetrans® suspended monorail and get an impression of what it's like to transport heavy material underground. The exposed monorail, which has served for many years in a mine in the southern Kuzbass region, was chosen for the exhibition because of it's reliability, durability and as a salute to the continued support and relationship with Becker Mining Systems RUS o.o.o.. Even after the closure of the original minesite, the Minetrans® monorail was restored to immaculate condition without any effort.
Krasnaya Gorka Museum was founded in 1991 in Kemerovo on the territory of a former coal mine. The district of Krasnaya Gorka is an open space museum and thus is a unique set of mining history. Historic and cultural monuments are arranged in their natural landscape.
The museum is open to the public daily 10am -17pm.
Becker Mining South Africa PTY Ltd. has been awarded a contract for the supply and installation of a Collision Avoidance System (CAS) at a copper mine in Phalaborwa, Limpopo, that also operates a smelter and refinery complex.

Becker Mining Australia is proud to announce the signing of a supply and installation contract with Auctus Minerals for a high capacity data link and digital radio system. Auctus minerals is the owner of the Mungana and King Vol mine sites in Far North Qld and is in the process of readying for production. Becker Mining Australia was chosen for this project based on our extensive experience in providing turnkey high capacity data links and reliable, high performance underground radio systems.
The scope of the project includes a high capacity microwave data transmission system and digital radio coverage at both mine sites and the access roads to the sites. Construction of two guyed radio masts and two free standing towers at strategic points along the 40km transmission path will form the backbone of the system. Each site will be connected by a 13Ghz microwave link supporting a Kenwood 5 channel DMR digital radio system. The DMR system will be IP linked across the 300Mbps microwave system to give seamless coverage across all sites and access roads. The digital radio system will eventually be migrated to the underground workings of each site.
As three of the sites are in remote areas with no main supply solar arrays and battery will supply these sites with power to allow adequate autonomy.
